Evaporation Cooler

For this design I was inspired by an African product, the ‘Zeerpot’ also known as ‘pot-in-pot fridge’. The Zeerpot is a very low tech fridge they use preserve food en drinks. The principal is based on evaporation cooling, when water evaporates it gives cooling, like sweating. So the Zeerpot works like this, there is an terracotta pot than a layer of sand and then another pot inside. When you wet the sand the terracotta absorbs the water en starts to sweat, then the sweat/water evaporates and the pots get cooled. I took this African principal and translated it into an western product, it became the Evaporation cooler. It’s a very low tech water cooler witch, instead of plugging it into the electricity grid, you water once in the2 a3 weeks. Click on the picture for more pictures.
